Tex-Mex Tacos


  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 Medium yellow or red onion, chopped
  • 1 Pound SAMPCO Extra Lean Shredded Beef
  • 1 Pkg. taco seasoning packet
  • ¾ Cup water
  • 12 Small flour tortillas (or hard corn taco shells)


  • Shredded lettuce
  • Diced tomato
  • Fresh cilantro leaves
  • Shredded cheese
  • Diced onion
  • Sour cream
  • Salsa
  • Diced jalapeño peppers
  • Sliced avocado or guacamole
  • Preparation:
  • Measure 3 tablespoons of chopped onion and set aside (to use for toppings.)
  • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat; add remaining chopped onion and cook, while stirring occasionally, until softened- about 4 minutes.
  • Stir in shredded beef; add taco seasoning & water. Simmer, uncovered, until most of liquid has evaporated, about 5 minutes. (Mixture should be moist-- but not wet.)
  • Spoon about ½ cup of seasoned beef mixture onto each tortilla or taco shell.  Top with any or all of your favorite taco topping ingredients.


  • Makes 12 tacos


  • **cook's tip: Try assembling your taco by adding your juiciest ingredients last (such as beef mixture, tomatoes, salsa...) it will help prevent the tortilla or taco shell from getting soggy!
